Fool's Journey

For my 16th birthday I received my first set of tarot cards. My best friend had gone to our local bookstore, run her fingers across the available tarot sets in the occult section, and stopped at the Thoth set. I didn't know it at the time but it was probably one of the most important gifts I'd ever been gifted.

The Thoth set, as I later learned, was difficult for someone who had absolutely no familiarity with the cards. The abstracted geometric patterns confused me and with no books (for fear my Catholic mother would find them and insist I be exorcised by our local priest) or reliable internet access (DSL was pretty expensive at the time) I eventually hid them away and forgot about them. Years later I saw that a Facebook friend posted about a weekend tarot workshop. That workshop rekindled my interest in learning, and I eventually signed up for classes at my local metaphysical bookstore.

Despite taking the classes, and my AMAZING teacher, I still have so much to learn. So that's what this blog is. A (hopefully) daily exercise and documentation of my tarot journey. I'll be using the Rider-Waite deck as it's the one I'm most familiar with and exploring other decks as well. I'm not sure where this will lead me or what to expect of it, but here goes!
